The plight of Thunder Bay’s homeless has spurred a local woman to make sure they have food and clothes.
Tasha Almgren is walking city streets with volunteers and wagonloads of supplies, adding she struggled with addiction most of her life, lost her brother to it in March, and recalls during treatment the opposite of addiction is connection.
“I didn’t really understand what that meant, in the moment, when I was taught that in treatment. I’ve since come to realize that all these people that are here with me all want to spread the word and show people that they are cared about and they have value,” says Almgren.
And the amount of community support is something she finds amazing.
In fact, she tells us she sometimes cries at the community response. “Over $749 on our fundraising page. Our Facebook page, we have almost 400 members, and we received an anonymous donation of $500 in product, as well as a gentleman just pulled up and gave us a $100 bill.”
