Today is a day to remember and thank our brave men and women for serving our Country. Today on my show I was telling stories and honouring those that have fought in battle. My Grandfather was a World War II veteran who served mostly with the Royal Montreal regiment. He traveled the world fighting for our freedoms. Below is a picture of the regiment he served with.

I actually got to talk to my Uncle today who shared a story with me about my Grandpa and it means a lot to me that I can share it with you!! My Grandfather was my best friend there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him especially on days like today.
My Grandfather was 17 when he went away to war and I can’t even imagine what that must have been like. When I was 17 I was thinking about boys and going to the movies with my friends. My Grandfather and Grandmother actually helped to raise me as both my parents were alcoholics. One story I will never forget is when I was about 11 I was struggling to find myself and to cheer me up my Grandpa took me out to go shopping and helped me pick out clothes. I will always owe it to him for making me the person I am today.

Also On my show today I had Jennifer reach out to me with a story about her Aunt who is a military vet, here is her story: Val Frankis took after her grandfather and father and pursued a career with the military; she started her own military career on May 14, 1981 with basic training in Nova scotia and on to trades training as an Airframe Technician in Borden, later working on a variety of aircrafts, including Tutor Jets (like the snowbirds use). Val later spent 4.5 years working in Germany on the 50 jets stationed in Germany and was part of the NATO command during the cold war era. Continuing on in her career, Val was posted to the to CFSATE where she was an instructor for students joining the military who were learning the trade of Airframe Technician, followed by a posting at that same base where she worked on the Griffon helicopters used for army support. In 2001, on her retirement, Val joined the reserves and worked as a Recruiter for the Canadian Forces for 6 years. During her career Val Frankis received the Gulf and Kuwait medal for her participation in the Gulf War. Below is a picture of Jen’s Aunt Val Frankis.

My good friend Bev also reached out to me during my show today about a Poem about a family friend “Uncle Dougie” who joined the navy at 15 and was sunk 3 times which she read on air. In case you missed it you can give it a listen below.
