Your chance to buy, anonymously, a gift for a child with the Children’s Aid Society this Christmas through the Holiday Wishes Tree campaign.
When shopping at Walmart stores, campaign manager Charmaine Cades tells us you can buy what is suggested on a snowman from the tree, and then leave it at the store, meant for kids of all ages.
“Everyone wants to sort of buy for little ‘3-year-old Suzie’, but I would encourage people to look at different age groups. Kids that live on their own at 16 or 17 are asking for things like a shovel, dishware, cooking utensils,” says Cades.
It’s also leaving a Children’s Aid Society volunteer honoured to contribute every year. Vierlyn Lunn has taken part in this for years, and now has her two boys involved. “I remember years ago one of the children I had in respite, was privileged to get a very lovely gift, that actually made her feel very changed, and feel appreciative, and felt like there was a Santa.”
Gifts left at the store will go into quarantine for a period of time, due to the pandemic, and then sent to those in need.
