Frustrated homeowners in Thunder Bay are calling insurance companies in relation to pinhole leaks in copper water pipes.
Some local companies told us it depends on your coverage, as to what is taken care of.
Jeff Jones, with Jones Insurance, adds each case is assessed individually. “The bigger one that we’re seeing right now is service lines. So from the city lines to the house, and if we’re finding there are leaks happening there, then most of our insurance companies we work with are covering.”
The Insurance broker adds they have been taking calls on this since late last year.
He also says they haven’t seen too many high priced quotes.
“None of them have been of anything substantial loss, we’re not seeing 50 or $100,000 claims. Most of the time the insurance companies will cover the actual [water] damage, but they won’t cover the repair of the pipe,” says Jones.
The Jones Insurance spokesperson adds if you are leaving town, turn off the water.
