Sleep Expert Opposes Time Change

A sleep expert says he would like to see the time change eliminated.

Tonight, we set our clocks back one hour to Standard Time.

Dr. Joseph De Konick says while we will gain an hour of sleep, overall, the time change is bad for us.

“The bad news people would say is that it gets darker earlier in the afternoon, and that is true. That induces depression, and perhaps more in people who have seasonal depression,” he explains.

However, he says the fall time change is the most beneficial.

“In my opinion, and there’s quite a bit of evidence that we have now, Standard Time is the normal time, that’s the best and that’s the one we should have year-round,” De Konick adds.

De Konick says the one benefit he sees from the time change is the amount of daylight is equal both before and after the noon hour.
