MPP Pressures Government To Act On Neskantaga

There are demands on the Ford government to do something about the water problems in Neskantaga First Nation.

Kiiwetinoong NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa points to the 25-year boil water advisory and the current problems with the water reservoir in the remote community.

“This would not be allowed in the riding like Etobicoke North,” noted Mamakwa.

He notes the absence of Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford following the evacuation of the remote community due to an oily sheen found in the water reservoir saying “To this day Minister Rickford has not reached out to Chief (Chris) Moonias.”

The Ford government explains it is working with the federal government to end the boil water advisory but Mamakwa states, “Playing jurisdictional ambiguity with the lives of the people in Neskantaga is not acceptable.”
