You can expect fewer delays for COVID-19 test results now that the assessment centre has cleared up a backlog of tests.
Manager Jackie Park says the high volume of tests was partly because of the requirements to test students who had any symptoms of the virus.
“On October 13, those guidelines were changed, allowing parents to use common sense and their own judgement [by] keeping their kids home for 24 to 48 hours before requesting a test if they started to improve. So I think that made a huge difference,” she notes.
She adds people should get their test results within two to five days now.
The province also handed down guidelines about how many tests they can do per day, which Park says is a target rather than a cap or limit.
The assessment centre’s goal is to avoid overwhelming the labs that process the tests, while keeping the ability to prioritize some patients for same-day testing when needed.
