Men Try To Protect Crash Site From Foresting

Two Thunder Bay men are trying to protect a 70-year-old plane crash site north of the city.

Chris Aegard tells us a US bomber created a roughly 50 foot deep hole when it crashed, but, they have learned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry plans some forestry work in the area.

“They have been contacted, and told there is a 200-metre area of concern around the impact crater, but that does not even come close to covering the debris field,” says the local explorer.

The local man adds they have not heard back from the Ministry. “I think it’s a case of ‘it happened so many years ago, most people don’t even know of the crash site, or the history of it, so it’s not my problem’.”

We have yet to reach out to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for comment.

Three men died in the crash, one parachuted to safety.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
