The Police Services Board has okayed the city’s proposed 2021 budget for police services.
A report to theBoard says the $53-million budget is taking a “status quo” approach for the most part.
There is a 2.5% increase over last year, which is made up of wage increases, COVID-19 costs, training recommended by the OIPRD police watchdog, and a drop in revenues related to user fees.
The one-time COVID-19 expenses like personal protective equipment added $230,000 to the proposed budget.
The Board says it doesn’t include any increases to staff levels.
They also accepted the city’s budget for the board, proposed at $223,000. That’s another status quo budget, with no increases over their 2020 funding.
