All Signs Point To Demolishing Victoriaville

New ways to showcase VictoriaVille and the South Core.

Pending ratification at the next council meeting, council votes unanimously to go ahead with tearing down the VictoriaVille Centre and to develop a committee that focuses on renewal and a reimagine strategy.

“This isn’t going to solve all of the problems but it’s possibly a very good start for this city to co-ordinate with agencies that work with vulnerable people. Together hopefully we can come up with a plan that could better serve all citizens of Thunder Bay,”‘ says McIntyre Councillor Albert Aiello.

The amended motion was brought forward by At Large Councillor Mark Bentz, who notes it’s all about community engagement.

“I think we can all agree there’s a lot of community interest in renewal and revitalization of this neighbourhood. I (believe) a committee is a important piece of engaging the community in this (process),” says Bentz.

“It’s the right decision to make from a planning perspective, which is why I’ll be voting for it,” notes Current River Councillor Andrew Foulds.

Westford Councillor Kristen Oliver stresses having an overall goal will help ease the public.

“I’m hoping that if we can clearly identify the direction in which we want to go (with this committee) I think that’ll help the process,” says Oliver.

January 25th 2021 is when administration is scheduled to report back to council with draft terms of reference for a committee.
