The defending champions, the Dylan Johnston rink, picked up an 8-3 win over the Gary Weiss foursome on the strength of back-to-back three-enders.
Elsewhere the Mike Desilets senior squad took the battle of Northern Ontario champions, edging the Krista McCarville rink 8-6 in extra ends.
Frank Morissette and his squad tripled up on the Dallas Burgess rink 9-3.
Ben Mikkelsen’s rink needed the extra end to steal a close 5-4 win over Trevor Bonot.
Play resumes next Wednesday at the Kakabeka Club.
The venue switches to the Port Arthur Curling Club for games on Wednesday October 14th.
