In Spite Of Pandemic Marina Did Well: Parks

After somewhat shaky start to the summer, Thunder Bay’s Marina did fairly well for boating.

Manager of Parks Cory Halverson tells us some people did not return to their docks due to COVID-19, so to fill that revenue void the city turned to its waiting list, and outside marketing. “Other revenues related to gas sales, and other sales were basically on par, so I think overall we’re probably going to be about where we normally are.”

The city called its waiting list, even though restrictions from COVID-19 were eased by the province.

“We ended up calling, because of the vacancies, or we had done a bit of social media outreach, later on in June and into July to remind people that there were some spaces open,” says Halverson.

The parks manager expects financially the marina did well, but won’t know until final numbers are in. He adds other parts of the province did well too, including southern Ontario.

“A lot of people that I guess would have been doing their more normal vacation schedule during the summer, were not able to do that, and it sounded like in the more densely populated areas, the marinas down there actually saw an increase,” says Halverson.

The parks manager adds by October 15th we’ll see most boats gone.
