Outdoor Dining Area Successful: BIA

The patio season is coming to an end, but expect the Waterfront StrEATery on Red River Road to be back next summer.

The StrEATery closes down September 30th, re-opening the eastbound lane of Red River between Court and St. Paul Streets in the north downtown.

Jim Commuzi, head of the Waterfront District BIA, says the Waterfront StrEATery was a big success and there is a push to make it a yearly feature.

Comuzzi admits there are also some improvements to be made for next year.

“We pulled it off with great success and in a short period of time, but we do realize that there were some issues and some things that, going forward, we will correct next year,” he explains.

The BIA Chair says the pandemic forced them to look closely at their goals for the future of the north downtown and how to achieve them.

He adds the outdoor dining and seating area means they are now much closer to making some infrastructure changes to the Waterfront district within the next few years.

The StrEATery was conceived as a way to drive more traffic to restaurants and businesses while indoor dining was banned, and encourage shoppers to feel more comfortable coming back to the downtown core.
