RFDA Prepping For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving will look different for food banks this year.

Volker Kromm is the head of the Regional Food Distribution Association and explains that because of the pandemic, they haven’t been able to hold food drives. Instead, they’re counting on shipments from organizations like Second Harvest, and financial donations to be able to buy food.

That includes the turkeys Kromm is hopeful they will be able to give to their food bank partners for the holiday.

“If the timing is right and the food starts arriving October 5th, we’ll be able to at least offer something. Some of the [proteins] are unique, and may not be very traditional, but we are getting things such as fish and ground bison,” Kromm notes.

Kromm says demand for food banks is rising now that kids are back in school and some employment supports have stopped.
