SIU Investigating Dryden OPP

Update 4:30am, Monday:

The man who was the subject of a search by provincial police in Dryden has died at hospital.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says OPP had been looking for 24-year-old Nazariy Geletiy of Vancouver since September 12th. They found him on Saturday, in Machin Township, west of Dryden.

However, OPP say there was some sort of incident between him and their officers when they found him in a wooded area. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he died Sunday afternoon. He had been shot, but at this time the unit believes no shots were fired by police officers.

The Special Investigations Unit, or the police watchdog, is still looking into this matter.

It investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
