Mason Jar DIY

Upcycle those mason jars! Here are a few seasonal DIY’s that you can make your own as we head into fall or as I like to call it FALLOWEEN!

MASON JAR PUMPKIN

Supplies:
22-25 Regular Mason Jar Bands
Scissors
Glue Gun
3 Glue Sticks
Twine
1 – 2 rolls of Ribbon (optional)
Paint (optional)
Cinnamon Sticks (optional)

How To:

*You can choose to chalk paint , spray paint or keep the mason jar bands as is. For the sake of this tutorial we are using ribbon to decorate the outside of each mason jar bands.

1) Prep your crafting area. To save my table/counter top area I often lay down old newspaper and/or cardboard. It doubles as an easy clean up afterwards! You’ll thank me later. Don’t forget to plug in your glue gun.

2) Time to prep your ribbon. Cut 22- 25 pieces of ribbon to approximately 35 CM each. This ensures the ribbon overlaps the regular mason jar band and gives you a little more wiggle room. Note: This sizing is specifically for regular mason jar bands. For wide mouth mason jar bands please re-size and measure accordingly.

3) Have your glue gun ready. Make sure all your mason jar bands are facing the same direction. This is especially important if your ribbon features different directional designs. This will also play a factor once you’re ready to fan the bands out to make your pumkpin shape. Use beads of hot glue sporadically to anchor your ribbon in place at the base of the mason jar band. Seal the end of the ribbon with hot glue to ensure the ribbon doesn’t eventually pull.

4) Once all your mason jar bands are ribbon covered set aside your glue gun. Cut your twine to approximately 35 CM in length.

5) Make sure all your mason jar bands are facing the same direction. Pull your twine through the bands. You will need all 22-25 mason jar bands. Then pull as tight as you can. It may help if you have someone helping you on this part. Tie a tight knot and cut off the excess twine.

6) Gently separate the mason jar bands and space evenly. If you prefer you can leave some intertwined.

7) Use excess twine to wrap approximately 4 cinnamon sticks together depending on how big they are. You can to use as many as it takes to cover the center. Using the hot glue gun secure the cinnamon sticks in the middle to be the pumpkin stem and dress it up as you wish.

8) Optional: You can add bows and/or decorative leaves/pinecones to your design or brighten it up with string lights on the inside. You can also use the mason jar seal (lid) to secure the pumpkin at the bottom with hot glue. I preferred leaving it loose so I could alter the design including moving the bands to hide any imperfections such as where the ribbon was secured into place with extra hot glue.

MASON JAR DECORATIVE POTS

Supplies:
3 Mason Jars
1 Sponge Brush
Chalk Paint/ Outdoor Paint in desired colour

How To:

1) Ensure your mason jars are clean and free of any water and/or moisture. Prep your craft area with old newspaper and/or cardboard.

2) Squirt chalk/outdoor paint directly into the mason jars. Regular crafting paint will not hold up to the elements. Using the sponge brush the side of each jar. Allow a few hours to dry. You may have to repeat once or twice based on your desired outcome.

3) Dress up with your favourite fall decor or alternatively in the kitchen as a utensil holder or in the office for quick access to supplies you use on a regular.

MASON JAR ORNAMENTS

Supplies:
Mason Jar Lids
Chalk / Outdoor Paint / Paint Markers
Paint Brush

Glue Gun
Glue Sticks

How To:
