Ontario Northland Transportation adds to its bus service between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg starting today.
Several of the Rainy River district’s mayors are happy with the route which will also make stops in their communities.
Fort Frances Mayor June Caul says it’s something they’ve been fighting for since Greyhound stopped serving the region.
“I know when [Greyhound’s division] Grey Goose stopped running here, it was very difficult for seniors and people who don’t have the money to have a car of their own. Seeing that bus pull up at the announcement was just so exciting,” Caul says.
Atikokan Mayor Dennis Brown is hoping that it will see a lot of use.
“It’ll take a little time for this Northland bus service to get known and get used to, but when people know about it and see how great it is, I’m sure some will start using it,” Brown predicts.
Eastbound services goes today with a westbound bus from Thunder Bay rolling through tomorrow.
