The annual Festival of Colours is on today, but without the usual colour throws due to the pandemic.
The festival, also called Holi, is an East Indian celebration of life and friendship where crowds throw handfuls of coloured chalk as a reminder to throw away worries. The event attracted around 3,500 people to the waterfront last year, but organizer Dr. Prashant Jani says they had to make some changes to follow public health rules.
Dr. Jani says they’ll still have have music, food and dance performances at the CLE grounds from 4 PM to 7 PM.
The festival is being held as a drive-in this year, and the performances will also be shown on a large screen so everyone can view them from a distance.
Instead of the usual colour throws at Marina Park, you can buy coloured chalk at the CLE to take home for your own colour throws.
Festival organizers say the original plan was to allow you to throw the colour beside your vehicle, but a “recent notification” from the Health Unit means that’s not possible.
