Stay Home To Support United Way

The United Way of Thunder Bay is hoping you won’t show up to its fundraiser No-Show Gala on September 17th.

They’re hosting what they call a “non-event” to raise money for their Recover 2020 Campaign. It replaces the Annual Impact Breakfast that’s usually held every fall to launch their fundraiser campaign.

CEO Albert Brule says they’re encouraging you to support the United Way by buying a ticket or making a donation, and then staying home.

“All of the money that you might normally spend attending a gala event or a night out, we ask that you consider donating that to the United Way,” Brule says. He says that can include parking fees, babysitter costs, dry-cleaning, and buying drinks or raffle tickets.

He points out that many charities the United Way supports have been hit hard by COVID-19, and so have the families those charities help.

You can find out more and buy tickets or make a donation at this link.

The United Way will continue accepting donations after the September 17th gala. Brule says it’s a way to have fun with their “non-event” and encourage people to take part in the campaign. People who donate before the non-event will receive a digital package including United Way’s Recover 2020 video outlining the importance of contributing.

There is no set goal for fundraising this year, but the CEO adds they want as many people as possible to donate.
