Council Confirms Turf Decision

Another bid to delay the indoor turf facility has failed.

City Councillors were up until three o’clock re-visiting whether to delay the project.

City Councillor Trevor Giertuga tried to get Council to hit pause for three months on the project that could cost up to $48-million. He was joined by Councillors Bentz, Hamilton, Johnson, McKinnon and You in trying to delay.

Councillor Aldo Ruberto maintains they really shouldn’t wait to proceed.

“We had the information, how much more information can you get? You know the costs pretty well, you know where the money is coming from, you’ve got money in the bank, you know what the tax implication’s going to be. I’m stunned,” Ruberto says.

Council also re-voted on a motion to wait as late as November 2021 for city administration to bring them more information. That was originally defeated at their previous meeting, and it was voted down again Monday night.

Councillors stayed the course and confirmed their decision to invite companies to send in their bids for the construction.
