A recent tour of Thunder Bay police headquarters has opened the eyes of McKellar Ward’s city councillor.
Brian Hamilton tells us a new building is needed soon, but notes to do that there must be serious consideration for taxpayer dollars and the many projects Thunder Bay is focused on. “Indoor turf is certainly one of them, and I support that. But I’d like to do it in a way that would not hinder our ability to respond to other critical priority needs, like the new police headquarters.”
Hamilton says there must be more focus on the police since the way they do their job keeps changing. But, he’s also focused on other important items, such as Fort Williams Gardens and the Conservatory, besides the turf facility.
“If we’re going to be investing multi-millions of dollars into a single project, that might really hinder our ability to respond effectively to the needs of other priorities, in this case, the police station,” says the city councillor.
He hopes over the next few months his council colleagues will prioritize what needs are important, and not put so much resource into one or two projects. The councillor did not divulge what upgrades are needed, instead expressing his concern for use of taxpayer money.
