City Officials Lobby Provincial Ministers

City officials have dished out their concerns to provincial cabinet ministers.

A delegation led by Mayor Bill Mauro and Councillors Brian McKinnon, and Kristen Oliver along with City Manager Norm Gale, brought forward community issues to lobby for action and/or funding for Thunder Bay at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.

As part of their presentation to the seven ministers, they brought up a list of concerns which included:

  • A Crisis Centre
  • Non-Urgent Patient Transport
  • RegenMed
  • Safety on Thunder Bay Expressway
  • Shelter House
  • TheProvincial Offences Act
  • A Multi-purpose sports facility
  • A new jail
  • Next-Gen 911 and,
  • Police Services Funding

They believe their lobbying efforts during the online municipal conference were effective with Mayor Mauro pointing out they “were fortunate to have secured some important virtual meetings to discuss critical community issues.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
