MP Never Saw Morneau’s Resignation Coming

The resignation of Bill Morneau as finance minister caught Marcus Powlowski off guard.

The Thunder Bay-Rainy River Liberal MP tells us he never saw it coming.

“Really as a back-bencher we don’t have much more information than the rest of the public does. The first I heard of this was (Monday) night when he announced his resignation,” said Powlowski.

The MP is disappointed to see Morneau leave noting “He was a very able minister and I think the fact he had a strong business background made him someone that the business community had some faith in.”

However, Powlowski believes Chrystia Freeland will do a good job as his replacement adding “She has a lot of confidence from the business community as well.

He points to the way she negotiated the Canada-United States-Mexico trade agreement was seen as a real victory for Canadian businesses.
