Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews have gotten a handle on Red Lake Fire 49.
Information Officer Chris Marchand says it’s because of rain and improved weather conditions, adding crews made “excellent progress” on the blaze Friday and overnight.
The fire is still listed at 552 hectares and is burning just three kilometres away from the town of Red Lake.
However, the Ministry says the fire is no longer considered out of control and is now being held.
Residents are still urged to stay away from the community, and travel restrictions and an emergency order remain in place for the entire Red Lake area.
The evacuation order also remains in place until further notice.
A statement from the Municipality of Red Lake says they will start the process of bringing residents back to the community.
The ask residents to be patient while crews restore critical services like natural gas and get their hospital running at full capacity.
