Rain Helps Red Lake Firefighters

Rain has helped fire crews get a handle on Red Lake Fire #49.

That’s the forest fire that forced the town to evacuate on Monday.

The latest update puts the fire at around 550 hectares in size and not under control.

However, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they made excellent progress yesterday.

The fire was hit with rain showers early Friday and more rain is in the forecast today.

The fire is burning just three kilometres south of Red Lake, and 24 crews are responding.

There are still travel restrictions in that area.
