City Council Round-Up: August 10, 2020

The indoor turf facility took up most of City Council’s time Monday night, but there were a handful of other items to be dealt with.

Here are all the decisions they made.

Council voted to have administration review their sidewalk construction policies, and provide options for updated policies that consider active transportation, accessibility and affordability.

City Council will have their staff ask for bids for the construction of the indoor turf facility once planning documents are ready.

They received the fourth annual report responding to the Seven Youth Inquest.

The city appointed Emma Westover, Director of Financial Services, as Deputy City Treasurer.

The city will spend $28,475 for over 75,000 disposable masks for vulnerable people.

Councillors are asking administration for a report on a pilot project to help people who use drugs. It would support those requiring access to safe spaces, work on developing a “safe supply” program similar to the Managed Alcohol Program, review a pilot project in Kenora that funds their Bear Clan, and look at opportunities for funding relative to decriminalization of drug possession for personal use.

Council declined to request a report that outlines the authority delegated to members of administration by City Council.
