Many continue to wait to hear when Thunder Bay will see construction start on a new jail.
Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca tells us he’s in the same boat. He hasn’t heard anything from the provincial government and is hopeful they’ll make their intentions known soon.
“I would urge the Ford government to move forward with the next stage of planning and get shovels in the ground as soon as possible,” Del Duca says.
Earlier this summer, a union official told our newsroom they expect construction to start on the project possibly next year.
“It’s been a long standing issue for the community of Thunder Bay. I also don’t know where it stands. I would want to see the government move forward with the funding and the plan so that the community can have piece of mind for the community safety,” Del Duca adds.
