No Word On Gateway Casino Reopening

There is still no word on when Thunder Bay’s Gateway Casino will reopen.

The United Steel Workers represents employees at the casino and spokesperson Jason Lacko hopes to speak with the manager sometime today.

“If they’ve amended any plans on the reopening, and when and exactly when. I don’t believe they can open until Friday but I don’t think that’s possible at this moment,” Lacko says.

The union rep wants to see safety protocols put in place before employees go back to work.

“We’re happy that our membership is beginning to fall back to work and hopefully we can get everybody back at some point. I think the reopening will be a bit of a slow process and hopefully, we can get everybody back as soon as possible,” Lacko says.

There are around 140 employees at the Gateway Casino in Thunder Bay.
