There are 20 new forest fires across the northwest.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the largest is burning 104 hectares in the Red Lake district. It’s not under control and is located 53 kilometres northeast of the community of Sandy Lake.
The next-largest fire is also in the Red Lake district. It is not under control at 20 hectares and is located near Little Gorman Lake, approximately 52 kilometres northwest of the community of Deer Lake. Most of the remaining fires identified by late Saturday afternoon are one hectare or smaller.
The forest fire hazard is high to extreme for most of the region. The MNRF says there are a total of 25 active fires in the region. Of those, 16 are not under control, four are under control, one is being observed and four are being held.
