The Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club calls it a sad day.
Albert Aiello said they have made the decision to cancel their summer day camps because of COVID-19.
“The decision was very agonizing for our staff and our Board of Directors. We received feedback from parents as well to ensure the safety of our kids,” Aiello said.
The Boys and Girls Club executive director added the cancellation of their March break and summer day camps will mean a financial loss but safety is far more important.
Aiello said that COVID-19 makes hosting day camps difficult.
“Kids can’t have contact with each other so you eliminate a lot of activities right there, something as simple as playing a board game would pose issues,” Aiello said.
With groups of ten people being the new norm, Aiello explains it makes it harder to host the day camps that typically bring in up to 200 kids a day.
