The Spirit of Radio

Last week a really neat video was released celebrating the Rush song ‘Spirit of Radio’. It’s an animated ‘thank you’, celebrating the life of drummer Neil Peart who passed away earlier this year as well as a tribute to the radio stations who help Rush along the way. The song, in fact, takes it title from the slogan being used by Toronto’s CFNY in the 1970’s ‘CFNY – The Spirit of Radio’. The song was the standout track from 1980’s Permanent Waves which recently saw a deluxe reissue featuring some unreleased live tracks in addition to the original studio material. It’s obvious that I would be drawn to a song about radio, I’ve been a radio nerd for years, but this really is a fantastic song. Not just a fantastic Rush song.

Check out the new video below!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
