Virus Concerns Addressed At Jail

There’s a little less tension over COVID-19 at the Thunder Bay District Jail, now that concerns of staff and inmates have been addressed.

Union head Bill Hayes says they recently did testing for anyone who wanted it, as well as making sure everyone has personal protective equipment.

“We’re finally getting on top of things with the PPE, and getting our isolation units up and running, and getting things in control in case we get some positive cases,” says Hayes.

He adds even though they’ve released some inmates, others have come in, keeping the crowding problems an issue.

And, there is a meeting planned this week to discuss a new jail.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
