A worker at a city run long-term care facility has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says the employee of Pioneer Ridge was tested along with all staff as part of what are termed an “enhanced surveillance initiative” at the facility as part of a “provincial testing strategy.” The results came back on Saturday.
The Health Unit says even though the person is an employee at Pioneer Ridge, “The individual does not go into the resident care areas and does not interact with any of the residents as part of their work.” The person has not shown any symptoms and is currently self-isolating and no other staff or residents show signs of illness.
Pioneer Ridge is located on Tungsten Street and has 150 long-term care beds.
“We will continue to monitor this situation closely and apply all the same precautions and enhanced measures that we have been taking throughout the pandemic,” said Lee Mesic, the Administrator at Pioneer Ridge.
It is the second time since the pandemic began, an employee at a long-term care home in Thunder Bay has tested positive for COVID-19. The first was at Hogarth-Riverview Manor May 2nd.
