Hospital Discharges COVID-19 Patient

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre now has one COVID-19 case staying in their facility.

Dr. Stewart Kennedy says Thunder Bay has had no new cases since May 20th but he is “hesitant to explode with happiness” because he feels there could be other cases still in the community.

The COVID-19 hospital lead says as they do more testing they could see more confirmed cases.

“We have 27 presumptive cases and that number is high because we are having a prolonged turn around time from the public health lab which is two to three days. We are not doing our quick swabs as many as more because we have a shortage of them and we expect that to be corrected by early next week,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy notes one COVID-19 patient was discharged from the hospital today. The remaining hospital patient is in stable condition and is not in ICU.

The COVID-19 lead says they hope to start rapid testing by mid-next week and feels testing is going in the right direction.
