House Sales Down, Prices Steady During Pandemic

It’s a sellers market in Thunder Bay for homes up for sale during the pandemic.

Thunder Bay Real Estate Board President Andrew Lawrence says the number of people looking for homes has increased beyond the number of listings available.

“Not only is our volume off in sales by 52% in April but our volume for new listings is off by 73% because we spoke to people about stalling and waiting a month or two before bringing their houses on the market,” Lawrence said.

The Thunder Bay Real Estate Board President says the price of homes hasn’t decreased because of COVID-19 and in some price ranges it’s increased slightly.

“From the $200,000 to $350,000 mark they are seeing an increase of about 1.5%. It’s a little bit of a sellers market than it is a buyers market at the moment,” Lawrence said.
