Hospital Has Two COVID-19 Cases

Thunder Bay’s Regional Health Sciences Centre is confirming they have two new cases of COVID-19 in patients that have been admitted to their facility.

Dr. Stewart Kennedy says it’s not expected and is unfortunate.

“We know this coronavirus is a bit of a rollercoaster, we had positive news coming out of the long weekend as we had no new cases in the Thunder Bay region for about a week. This morning with the confirmation of the two new cases it has taken the carpet from under my feet,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy says both individuals are in stable condition in the hospital.

The hospital’s lead on COVID-19 says in this instance some staff were exposed to these patients and are going to be sent home.

Kennedy says the two new cases show that COVID-19 is still in the community.

Thunder Bay’s District Health Unit is reporting the two new cases are in women in their 60s and 70s. In both of the cases, it’s not known how they were exposed to the virus.
