Teacher Takes Cooking Class Online

The Lakehead Public School Board is trying out a unique way of teaching kids during the pandemic.

Cooking with Mr. Miller, sees teacher Todd Miller continue his culinary arts program but instead of in-person online through cooking videos his teenage son helps produce.

“He was pretty sure that nobody would watch them but the response has been pretty good, I’ve been watching for comments to see if things went well or if they didn’t and I want to provide feedback,” Miller said.

Miller says the pandemic has caused more people to decide to cook at home so much so that it’s been hard to find flour on store shelves.

The culinary teacher feels his videos are helping families cook together and enjoy the students’ homework which recently was cookies.

Miller says the recipes are teaching more than cooking skills.

“So many kids seem hesitant to talk about fractions and decimals but when you start talking about ingredients and halving and doubling recipes they realize they can do math thanks to cooking,” Miller adds.
