The pandemic means Canada Day celebrations will not be taking place on the waterfront but will be held virtually.
Officials with the City of Thunder Bay add ‘Live on the Waterfront’ will also take place in the same fashion.
The city says virtual events will include performances, family friendly activities, and messages from dignitaries and sponsors. Details will be announced leading up to event dates and in the city’s annual Summer Events Guide.
Meantime, the city says the marina will begin limited operations allowed under current provincial emergency orders beginning May 15. Fuel services will be available daily from 9 am – 5 pm. Boaters will be allowed to bring their boats into the Marina, but only for the purpose of docking their boats and completing start of year maintenance.
However, because recreational boating is currently prohibited, activities such as sitting on your boat for relaxation, and socializing, are still not permitted at this time.
As for golfing at Strathcona and Chapples courses, it is still prohibited while the provinces emergency order is in effect but the courses are being readied for the day they are allowed to open.
