NAPS Officer Involved In Shooting

Nishnawbe Aski Police are reporting an incident that led to gunfire by a police officer in Fort Severn First Nation.

Police say on Thursday a man became involved in a “life-threatening altercation” with a NAPS officer.

Police say the officer responded by firing his gun, injuring the man who then fled the scene.

NAPS officers say they were able to locate the man with help from the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Teams. He was taken into custody and transported to the nursing station for treatment.

Police say the man has since been transported out of Fort Severn First Nation with “serious but stable” injuries.

An investigation into the matter is underway with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police.

Fort Severn is located around 715 kilometres northeast of Red Lake.
