Health Care Goes Online During Pandemic

There’s a new normal for expectant mothers-to-be during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Family Physician at Harbourview Family Health Team Danielle Eras tells Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro it’s a challenge but we can get through this together.
“It definitely is an unusual time to be expecting or to be a new parent. You really aren’t allowed to do the normal celebratory things you would have to welcome a baby, you can’t have baby showers, you can’t go shopping, or have visits,” Eras said.
Pregnant patients can now expect a mix of in-person and virtual prenatal appointments.
“Trying to minimize potential risk and transmission with unnecessary exposure, but patients can still get access to testing and imaging,” Eras said.
Eras noted they are spacing out their appointments at the clinic so the waiting room isn’t packed and doing as many appointments via video conference or telehealth as possible.
