WATCH: A Video for Canada

Sportsnet released a heartfelt video today. A Different Spring, an essay by Hometown Hockey host Tara Slone, which I’ve posted below. I love it. A great reflection of what’s going on right now from a very smart woman with a huge heart.

I worked with Tara for several years in Calgary on a TV show called Breakfast Television, and I’m happy to report that she’s an absolute gem. We had an awesome team at Citytv and got to do a lot of fun stuff at work, and had even more fun socially. I’m not even sure what we’re doing here. I think playing a virtual video game of some sort. I’m going to go ahead and guess that Tara is riding a motorcycle and I’m in her sidecar.

I hadn’t moved home yet when Tara and Ron MacLean hit up T-Bay for Hometown Hockey, but I got the chance to chat with her about her time here. She had a blast at the Hoito and trying out a legit Finnish sauna, followed by a graceful plunge (maybe a bit of a slip and fall) into the Big Lake … IN JANUARY!

You might also remember Tara as the lead singer of Joydrop. Lots of great tunes from that group, check out a couple of them below. You’ll be thanking me for bringing them back into your rotation! I was lucky enough to karaoke with her several times. I’ve never heard a voice like that. She would blow your hair back with a little Led Zeppelin.

You come across a lot of people in broadcasting, and on occasion, you get the chance to say how proud you are to know one of them. Today is one of those days. Amazing job on A Different Spring, Sloner. Such a great message. I appreciate being in this with each and every one of you.
