Bill Mauro is among those keeping Nova Scotia in their thoughts after a mass shooting in that province.
At City Council, Thunder Bay’s mayor said the city is “shocked and saddened” by the deaths of at least 19 people over the weekend.
“Our flags, like those across the country, here at city hall are at half-mast as we stand with all Canadians in support of the people of Nova Scotia,” Mauro said.
The mayor held a moment of silence at the start of last night’s meeting.
“Our hearts are with them, the victims and family, as they and we absorb the horror of the tragic violence of this past weekend,” he added.
Mauro also began the meeting by remembering the death of the former mayor of Thunder Bay’s Sister City of Gifu, Japan, Shigenmitsu Hosoe. He noted the city fondly remembers Hosoe’s three visits to Thunder Bay as part of the Sister City delegation.
