School Closures Remain In Place

The province is still not in a position to re-open schools.

The government has extended closures past May 4th due to COVID-19 concerns.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says they are monitoring the situation on a day-by-day basis.
“We are building a plan for the current school year from now until June,” Lecce explains. “We want to ensure children graduate, we remove impediments to graduation, we support them so that they can continue to learn and ultimately achieve all the competencies and skill sets they need to complete their year with integrity.”
“If we get the impression that we need to add more supports or take additional measures leading into the next year we will do it. We are looking at every option to ensure no child has a gap in learning,” he adds.
Premier Doug Ford says the decision to bring students back to class will be based on health and science.
“We don’t want to put our kids in jeopardy. Number one priority is to make sure our kids are healthy and safe,” Ford emphasizes.
Ford stresses the government will make sure every student graduates this year.
