The organization which oversees social services in the region is offering emergency child care services to critical essential workers who have no other options during the pandemic.
Louise Piercy of the District Social Services Administration Board explains they have already reached out to workers to see how much interest there was.
She says they found about 400 people who said they would be interested if the program were offered.
However, there are only two centres which will be in operation. One will be in Thunder Bay and the other in Geraldton which will mean not everyone will be accepted.
“At this point in time we expect the demand will exceed the number of spaces available,” admits Piercy.
Applications for the positions at the two centres in Thunder Bay and one in Geraldton are now open.
Since the services will be provincially funded there will be no cost to the families.
