Much needed ventilators will be partially built at the Thunder Bay Bombardier plant starting at the end of April.
Union official Dominic Pasqualino explains for the time being, they are helping another company construct about 700 ventilators and hopes it will be just the beginning of something bigger.
“The whole world needs ventilators, maybe we can build them for the rest of the world, and build them faster,” says the union official.
As many as 50 workers could be called back, but he cannot say how long it will take.
Thunder Bay MP Marcus Powlowski tells us he initially put Bombardier in contact with O-Two Medical Technologies, to build as many as 18,000 units. Pasqualino adds for the time being, he cannot say whether all 18,000 will be built in Thunder Bay, it all depends on how long COVID-19 rages on.
Ventilators are used by COVID-19 patients to help them breathe as the virus attacks the lungs.
