Mayor: Wait & See For Waterfront Events

Thunder Bay’s Mayor says the City and many other organizations are in a holding pattern as we continue to wait and see how the COVID-19 pandemic turns out.

Speaking to Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro, Bill Mauro says many organizers of events on the waterfront are keeping their fingers crossed.

“Decisions have not been made with finality on a lot of those issues but you will get to a point when there is simply not enough time to plan. If you haven’t found your way forward to saying yes we can do it, they will have to be cancelled,” Mauro said.

The Mayor says under the current emergency provincial legislation the city can’t open the marina or the waterfront park area.

Mauro says they are waiting to see if they can resume boating operations at the waterfront marina.

“I’m hopeful we will find our way forward to provide some opportunities to offer some amenities to people, some of them seem more able to be available to the public, and others less so,” Mauro added.

As for construction projects, the Mayor says they are in discussions to see which capital projects in their budget will be deemed essential and allowed to go forward.
