Keeping Up With Food Delivery Demand

It’s been non-stop working around the clock for many grocery store staff, including those at Maltese Grocery to keep shelves stocked amid COVID-19.

Angie Maltese is an adviser to her brother and sister, and tells us they rely on hundreds of suppliers, which helps when one has a product another might not have.

“Yeast was literally selling out, as soon as they put it on the shelf, it was gone. Also, bags of carrots… my sister said to me ‘If you see a bag of carrots, buy it!’ And then things like white flour,” says Maltese.

She adds they’ve been able to keep up with making sure delivery to customers doesn’t fall behind.

“And the way they’ve been able to do that, is they don’t deliver past 9 o’clock. But what they have been doing, is they have a midnight crew coming on and filling those orders. The next day those deliveries can go out,” says the Maltese adviser.

Maltese owners have been able to get delivery done on time, while they’re aware other stores are somewhat behind. But there’s also concern of keeping everyone safe, resulting in some people not wanting to the job .

“Concerned about keeping their essential workers and employees. And there’s recruiting, because they obviously have increased demand as well. There is a logical nightmare with having to do deliveries, there’s a whole other layer,” says the store adviser.
