MOH Says More Daily Testing Coming

The Premier and the province’s Medical Officer of Health appear to be on the same page when it comes to increasing daily testing for COVID-19.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Wiliams says he doesn’t see the Premier’s demand that they test more front line people as a scolding to public health.

“I would say it’s more like the Captain coming to us and saying you want this, I want this, so let’s make it happen. We are saying let’s go, and so it wasn’t anything like being taken to the woodshed, it’s more like do it and I’ll support you all the way. So we are saying let’s do it,” Williams said.

The MOH says they were already meeting last week to look at ways they could increase their testing.

Williams noted they were discussing areas that need to see increased testing to meet their overall goal of decreasing deaths from the disease.

The medical officer of health says they are looking to do more testing in area First Nations as well.

The Premier wants 13,000 tests daily for front line, emergency and long term care officials.
