Local Woman Extending Visit To Botswana

A Thunder Bay woman and her daughter are deciding to stay in Botswana for another month in order to avoid travelling through other COVID-19 hot spots.

Kelly Rooney tells us there was an evacuation flight leaving Botswana on Thursday but they decided not to take it since the places they would have to travel through have a higher number of cases compared to where they are staying.

Rooney says they are watching the situation closely and will reassess at a later time.

“We’re safe here for now and we feel that the risk of being stuck here for a while is less than the risk of travelling right now,” Rooney said.

The Thunder Bay resident hopes conditions will improve and she will be able to return to Thunder Bay when they do.

You can read our previous story about Rooney’s trip that started in December, HERE.
