‘Full Lockdown’ Possible For FWFN

Fort William First Nation is further closing their residential area as it approaches a “full lockdown.”

Chief Peter Collins says it’s for non-members and anyone who doesn’t live or work in their community.

The Chief and Council have set up 24-hour security checkpoint at the north end of Mission Road.

In a Facebook Live video, Chief Peter Collins said they are concerned about the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario and Thunder Bay.

Collins explained businesses with offices in the restricted area have been issued colour-coded passes for their employees to show at the checkpoint.

The First Nation has also established a curfew, and only emergency services will be allowed in or out of the community between 6 PM and 6 AM.

Collins also addressed rumours that someone in Fort William First Nation has COVID-19.

“We don’t want to create panic by listening to rumours, so please wait for the updates from us, and from our health staff here. We’ll confirm those cases if there is any that arise in the community,” The Chief added.

An announcement from the First Nation adds they look forward to welcoming everyone back to the community once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
